Class Registration & Policies
Class Fees
Enrollment in a class includes 25 pounds of basic clay and the cost of glazing and firing it. It also covers the students access to the studio during open studio hours. Each student will receive a bag of clay during the first class session.
Class Cancellation, Withdrawal & Refund Policy
If you choose to drop a class, you will receive a refund of your tuition, excluding a non-refundable $20 registration fee per reserved space, provided that your withdrawal occurs seven days before the start date of the session as a whole (eg, Session 1). Our deadline for refunds is published in our newsletter when classes are announced. No refunds will be issued after this deadline.
Please note that no refunds or credit will be given for missed individual classes within the session.
We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes to adjust for enrollment. If a class is cancelled, you will be offered the option of another class or a full refund.
Workshop Cancellation, Withdrawal & Refund Policy
If you drop a workshop up to 30 days before the workshop start date, tuition will be refunded except for:
Workshops under $150: a $45 non-refundable registration fee per space reserved
Workshops over $150: a $75 non-refundable registration fee per space reserved
No refunds will be made within 30 days of the start of the workshop, once the workshop has started, or for missed classes. If a workshop is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you will be offered the option of another class or a full refund.
Class Makeup Policy
We can only offer makeup classes in documented cases of illness or injury. We want folks who get into classes to take advantage of the opportunity to learn—so, if you’re considering taking a class but would miss multiple weeks because of scheduling conflicts, we encourage you to wait until your schedule allows you to attend all classes.
Class Registration
Registration for our weekly classes takes place through our website, and payment in full is required at the time of registration. If a class or workshop is full, you may add yourself to the waitlist at the bottom of each individual class page.
Acceptance
Students must be at least 18 years old to participate in our classes and workshops, unless the class or workshop is specified for younger people.
Student Information
Clay
Enrollment in a class includes 25 pounds of basic clay and the cost of glazing and firing it. Each student will receive a bag of clay during the first class session. Beginning students will be given a limited range of clay choices. Experienced students will be given more options, but should expect to pay an upcharge for the following clays: 181, 266, 710: $6; Helios, 257, 365: $17.50. If you want to use one of these clays, please bring cash/check to your first class, or be ready to pay the upcharge using your phone—you will need to pay the upcharge before you can take the clay.
Class fees subsidize the cost of firing 25 pounds of clay. Students are encouraged to experiment and take risks during the learning process as they progress from beginning through intermediate levels. If you wish to use more than 25 pounds of clay, additional bags may be purchased at the regular retail price and may be fired after payment of the regular firing fees. A $15 fee is added at the time of purchase which covers the additional firing and materials cost.
Plan ahead if you will need to buy more clay, as our supply store is not open during class times. You may buy clay any time we are open for retail hours Tuesday-Saturday, 1-6 pm.
Tools and Equipment
You are responsible for providing your own small clay working tools. We strongly encourage you to write your name on all of your tools using permanent marker. A few tools will be available for common use. Please return them after you have used them. Never borrow tools from another person’s shelf without their specific permission.
Towels and Aprons
Bring a towel and apron for your personal use, and keep them on your shelf with your other belongings. Please rinse them out periodically to avoid creating dust.
End of Session
All pots completed for bisque by the end of your last class may be glazed and fired with no additional firing charge. Each student must take all personal belongings + clay home, clean their shelf, and take all fired work from the shelves. You may return to glaze any remaining pots within two weeks of the beginning of the next session. Any bisque ware remaining beyond that time will be disposed of.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather or other emergency that makes it necessary to cancel a class, we will do our best to contact students by phone or email. Every effort will be made to arrange make-up times for cancelled classes, but because of limited open times for scheduling them, it may not always be possible to do so at a time that all students can attend.
Parking
Claymakers has three parking areas within our fence; all are for our exclusive use. Students are welcome to park next to our building, under the covered portion, or in the outermost lot (outside the cinderblock wall).
Safety
Please use common sense. After dark, please leave the studio in twos and threes. We encourage you to keep all items in your car locked in your trunk or otherwise out of view, and to keep your car locked.
