Session 1: Introduction to Glaze Design, Monday Evenings
Skill Level: Advanced
Tired of relying on someone else to provide you with glazes? Are you ready to learn how to mix, tweak, and perfect your own? Then this is the class for you!
We will begin with the basics like test tile construction, how to use a scale, and what the necessary components of a glaze are and how they behave. We will learn how to do a melt test, a line blend, and the basics of how to design and execute experiments to solve glaze problems. No chemistry or glaze mixing background is needed for this class, but you should be an intermediate to advanced pottery student.
There will be no wheel work in this class, but students are encouraged to use open studio hours to throw or hand build pieces for their new glazes. As usual, each student will receive a bag of clay for firing at Claymakers.
Monday Evenings, 6:30-9:30 pm
Class Dates: January 6, 13, 20, 27; February 3, 10, 17
Instructor: Marie Wright
Location: Wheel Studio 2
Skill Level: Advanced
