Session 1: Functional Handbuilding, Tuesday Evenings
Skill Level: All
If you're looking for an alternative to wheel-throwing, look no further! Handbuilding is the oldest method of pottery-making, and is a great introduction to working with clay. In this class, students of all skill levels will create functional items like cups, plates, bowls, boxes and more, using only their hands and simple tools.
Beginners will start with the foundational handbuilding techniques of coil, pinch, and slab: as you gain confidence and skill, you'll learn how to expand and combine these methods. More experienced students will have the chance to refine their techniques and take on more complex, challenging functional projects. The class will also cover surface texture, design, and glazing techniques.
Through demonstrations, individual instruction, and personalized guidance, this class will help you bring your creative ideas to life—no wheel required!
Tuesday Evenings, 6:30-9:30 pm
Class Dates: January 7, 14, 21, 28; February 4, 11, 18
Instructor: Bernadette Januska
Location: Sculpture/Handbuilding Studio
